KUCHING: Raja Muda Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Ibni Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail was delighted to lead a leisurely bike ride event organised by the Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) Sarawak Branch in conjunction with the celebration of its 45th anniversary here yesterday morning.

His arrival was greeted by the chief political secretary to the Premier of Sarawak, Fazruddin Abdul Rahman and the director of DBP Sarawak Branch, Abang Haliman Abang Julai.

More than 70 participants from the Sarawak Cycling Association accompanied him who started as early as 7.45am.
A 20-kilometer ride that commenced from the Sarawak State Library, passed through Kampung Temenggung Haji Gobil, Kampung Semerah Padi, Matang Jaya, Kampung Tupong, Kampung Lintang and ended at the Sarawak Branch DBP Office.

Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra and the participants also had time to stop by at Al-Ghazali Mosque before continuing the cycle to Al-Abyad Mosque at Matang Jaya.

While at the Al-Ghazali Mosque, he was given some information regarding the history of the construction of the mosque by the chairman of the mosque, Sumardi Ghazali.

The objective of the cycling is to promote the role, function and importance of the national language and literature as one of the core elements of building the nation and the civilisation, as well as a medium to spread the language and increase the importance of the language to the Malaysian community.

Also participating in the bike ride with Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra was the deputy director general of PSD (Operations), Datuk TS. Kamel Mohamad, Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri, Sarawak State Education Department director Dr. Azhar Ahmad and Sarawak Cycling Association president Datuk Benjamin Hasbie.
