KUCHING: A steady drizzle did little to dampen the enthusiasm of those who turned up for this year’s first Ibu Pertiwi flag-raising ceremony here.

It was officiated by Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Minister, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

With umbrellas in hand, an estimated 150 government officers, private agency representatives, and city residents, gathered for the event.

The flag was raised as the Sarawak state anthem Ibu Pertiwiku began to play.

In addition to the flag-raising, the event featured honour guards and special performances that encapsulated the ethnic diversity in Sarawak.

A special performance was the Unity of Sarawak performance, known as Kasuma Tari, under the supervision of the Sarawak Arts Council.

The ceremony is a monthly event organised by the Kuching North City Hall (DBKU).

DBKU encourages all Kuching residents to participate in this monthly event to demonstrate their support for the nation and the state of Sarawak.

Also present were Abdul Karim’s wife, Datin Seri Zuraini Abdul Jabbar, Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi with his wife Datin Siti Shorgayah Ahmad Zaidin, DBKU mayor Datuk Hilmy Othman and Kuching South City Council (MBKS)  deputy mayor Datuk Dr Zaiedi Suhaili.
