Raids net 325 across Sarawak for drugs; youngest 16 years old

KUCHING: A total of 325 suspects were arrested for drug-related offences in raids under ‘Ops Tapis Khas’ between Jan 29 and Jan 31 throughout the state.

Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata said the operation targeted drug hotspot areas, which include residential areas, shop lots, farms and fishing jetties.

“Throughout the three-day operation, 325 individuals were arrested, and the suspects are between 16 and 69 years old, 306 of whom are male and 19 female,” he told a press conference at the Sarawak IPK Media Centre this morning.

During the operation, a total of 1,197.22 grams of various drugs worth RM64,034.42 were seized.

“The seized drugs include methamphetamine, ketamine, marijuana, Erimin 5 pills, and ecstasy. The drugs seized are able to be used by 3,314 drug addicts,” he said.

Mancha also revealed that police arrested 1,221 individuals throughout the whole month of January including 82 drug dealers as well seized RM7,494,453.94 worth of various drugs.

“The police have also confiscated assets used for drug distribution amounting to RM 456,566.55,” he said.

Mancha appealed to the public to come forward with information on drug activities by calling the NCID hotline on 012-208 7222.
