KUCHING: A raid by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) on a warehouse in Demak Laut Industrial Park here led to the confiscation of counterfeit goods valued at RM442,977.
According to Sarawak KPDN director Matthew Dominic Barin, Tuesday’s (March 26) raid was conducted by officers alongside representatives of trademark owners.
“The raid unveiled a cache of suspected counterfeit electronic vehicle items, resulting in the detention of one individual claiming to supervise the premises.
“KPDN’s inspection led to the seizure of 902 units of electronic vehicle items worth an estimated RM 442,977, including android car players, dashcams, and speakers.
“These items are suspected of violating the Trade Marks Act 2019 and are under investigation. The case marks the highest seizure value in 2024 under the Trade Marks Act 2019 and will be probed under Section 102(1)(c) of the Act,” Matthew said.
He sternly cautioned traders to comply with the law, emphasising that violators could be fined up to RM10,000 or imprisoned for up to three years for each mislabeled registered trademark item.
Repeat offenders, he added, might incur fines of up to RM20,000 or face imprisonment for up to five years.
Additionally, companies found guilty could be fined up to RM15,000 for each offence, with subsequent offences potentially resulting in fines of up to RM30,000.
Additionally, KPDN cautions against unauthorised sale of goods. Concerned individuals may report such activities through various channels provided.
