KUCHING: The atmosphere is calm as the city ushers in the year 2023.

Early morning light rain occurs in a few locations in Kuching as the new year begins, but cool weather prevails in others where the sun appears to be peeking through the clouds.

Hot spots in the city that frequently experience traffic bottlenecks are also seen to be less congested with vehicles.

It seems that dwellers prefer to spend time in the new year, which happens to fall on a weekend, staying at home.

Shopping malls, on the other hand, appear to be busy with visitors who come with family and friends.

The number of cars that swarm to the shopping centres is observed eager to wait in a long line before accessing the parking spaces.

I guess it might be a calm new year on the road, but not when it comes to shopping.

But I don’t want to say too soon because most people here prefer to spend their evenings relaxing.

We may anticipate it to be a typical weekend day, with folks spending time with family or friends doing leisure activities.
