JAKARTA: An earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale occurred in southwest Banten, with tremors felt in Jakarta city.
According to the Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the quake occurred at 11.44 a.m. West Indonesian time, and was centred at 18 km southwest of Rangkasbitung-Banten, at a depth of 82 km.
The tremors were also felt in Jakarta city which is located about 120 km from the centre of the quake. According to BMKG, no warning of a tsunami has been issued.
As of noon today, BMKG’s official Twitter account has been flooded with more than 1,000 comments from netizens who said they felt buildings shake for about three seconds when the quake occurred.
No damages or fatality have been reported so far. – Bernama
