SIBU: Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi has urged the Public Works Department (PWD) Sarawak to take immediate action and monitor the flood situation affecting roads, particularly along the Pan Borneo Highway.

He said that continuous heavy rainfall has caused flooding in several areas here over the past few days.

“This includes areas around the Durin Bridge along the Pan Borneo Highway.

“I have been informed that the situation is due to continuous rainfall, which has caused the Batang Rajang’s water level to rise and overflow onto the road,” he said in a statement today.

The Kapit Member of Parliament said that at present, the road leading to the Durin Bridge remains impassable to small and light vehicles.

“I urge all road users to remain vigilant of the current situation and always adhere to the authorities’ instructions for everyone’s safety,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, PWD Sarawak, in a statement, said that safety signboards have been installed at the affected location.
