SARIKEI: A detailed study will be carried out by the Public Works Department (PWD) before approval can be given to build a bridge here.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said this in response to Semop assemblyman Datuk Abdullah Saidol’s proposal that a bridge be built at Tanah Putih.
“If allocation is still available, the project will be included in the Rajang Delta Development Agency (RADDA) development plan,” Uggah added.
He was speaking to reporters after the Majlis Perasmian Program Gawai Perpaduan@Mupong organised by the Semop service centre in collaboration with Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) at Mupong car park here Saturday (June 24).
Earlier, Abdullah said he has handed a proposal to Uggah for a 600-metre bridge to be built from Tanah Putih to Bukit Huang.
“The bridge will connect the town area up to Semaring. As Datuk Amar (Uggah) knows that area has a huge potential as a food basket. It has supplied around 200kg to 300kg various kind of vegetables to Sibu, Sarikei and nearby areas.
“With the bridge and later road connecting Semaring to the town area, I am sure the locals can supply more vegetables to the area,” he said.
Abdullah who is also Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Office (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS) said the cost of the proposed project as recommended by PWD is RM64 million.
