KAPIT: The Public Works Department (PWD) will keep monitoring ground movement at the landslide-affected site along Jalan Song-Temalat-Kanowit to prevent further risks to public safety.
Minister of Works, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi who visited the site on Saturday (Feb 1) described the situation as critical, as heavy rainfall over the past few days had caused severe soil erosion, leading to the landslide.
“The condition here is quite severe as the landslide was triggered by persistent rain.
“Thus, I have instructed PWD to closely monitor the ground movement to ensure safety and prevent further incidents,” he said in a Facebook post.
He also emphasised the need for urgent repairs, as the affected road is a key route for motorists in the area.
“While repair works are being planned, a temporary diversion has been set up for small and light vehicles.
“I have also requested that clear road signs and traffic instructions be placed along the diversion route to ensure the safety of road users,” he added.
Nanta, who is Kapit MP also took the opportunity to express his appreciation to all agencies involved for their swift response to the disaster.
Earlier, he conducted a flood survey in Kuching.
