KUCHING: The Sarawak Wood Industry Development Corporation (PUSAKA) has unveiled a coffee table book titled ‘The Application of Timber in Our Culture’ to shed light on the use of wood within the local community’s cultural practices.
PUSAKA general manager Zainal Abidin Abdullah said the book serves as an exploration of the diverse uses of wood by various segments of society throughout Sarawak.
“Among the contents of the pictures in this book are the products or uses of wood by people from all walks of life.
“It also showcases wood products in our heritage and culture so that the future generation can see and appreciate the significance of wood in Sarawak’s history,” he said.
He made these remarks during the book launch and funds presentation ceremony of STA Mutual Sdn Bhd and PUSAKA at Wisma Sumber Alam here today.
Zainal said the publication by PUSAKA’s Standard and Quality Control Section aligns with PUSAKA’s vision and mission for the timber industry in Sarawak to move towards a more advanced and sustainable direction.
On a related note, he suggested that the book be distributed to schools to be displayed in their respective libraries for reference of students and teachers.
“In doing so, we aim to provide a source of reference for them, thus making future generations more appreciative of Sarawak’s heritage and natural treasures,” he added.
Also present was PUSAKA advisor Datuk Hashim Bojet.
