DARO: The Sarawak government’s initiative in assisting Sarawakians, who have arrears on loans from the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN), is strong evidence that state leaders place great emphasis on the welfare of graduates in the state, said Safiee Ahmad.

The Daro assemblyman said the state government is also very aware that the assistance is very much needed by the group, especially in this difficult period.

“This initiative is timely because it can help ease the financial burden faced by graduates.

“It is hoped that graduates can help contribute to social, economic or other developments in this state as a sign of gratitude to the state government,” he told reporter.

Earlier, Yayasan Sarawak director Azmi Bujang disclosed that only Sarawakians who have paid at least 30 percent of the arrears of their PTPTN loans are eligible for help from the state government.

He also said that Yayasan Sarawak will automatically have names of those who have paid at least 30 percent of their arrears to PTPN; thus those who do so need not apply for the assistance.
