ENGKILILI: The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) plays a crucial role in supporting students’ development and ensuring their needs are well-managed at the school level, said Lubok Antu MP Roy Angau Gingkoi.
He said that PTA assists in addressing students’ needs, including education, safety, and well-being, with due attention.
He emphasised that PTA should serve as an effective platform for parents and teachers to collaborate in enhancing the quality of education at the school level.
“For instance, if issues arise among students, parents, and teachers, the best approach is through a roundtable discussion.
“A roundtable discussion is a forum where all involved parties can sit together to discuss emerging issues, identify root causes, and reach agreements through open dialogue and listening to each other’s perspectives,” he said.
He said this in his speech at a luncheon at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Engkilili No 1 at the Lubok Antu District Council Multipurpose Hall on Saturday.
Roy also approved an allocation of RM15,000 for the needs of PTA SK Engkilili No 1 to advance all school activities, including an allocation of RM100,000 for the renovation of the school.
Additionally, he also announced a grant of RM10,000 allocated by Senator Susan Chemerai Anding, who is also the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Engkilili chief.
Apart from fundraising for the development of the school in both academic and extracurricular aspects, the event organised by PTA SM Engkilili No 1 aimed to strengthen the relationship between members and school staff.
Meanwhile, SK Engkilili No 1 headmaster Andrew Achan said the school has been equipped with Smart TVs as part of an effort to enable teachers to deliver teaching materials more dynamically and interactively, enhancing the learning experience for students.
Furthermore, he said that the installation of a fence around the school, given its proximity to the Batang Ai River banks was to ensure the safety of students and school staff.
“This measure is also taken as a precautionary step to prevent any undesirable incidents, especially related to the riverbanks,” he said.
