SIBU: A total sum of RM123 million worth of projects were approved in Dudong area which is under the jurisdiction of Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) for the past four years.
Disclosing this, SRDC deputy chairman, Wong Ching Yong expressed his heartfelt thanks particularly to Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian; Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry & Performing Arts, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah; SRDC chairman Sempurai Ngelai and all government agencies concerned.
The projects and allocations approved from Aug 10, 2020 to Dec 31, 2024 included upgrading Jalan Pulau Dudong (Tar Seal 7.6 km) – RM40 million; repair and maintenance and upgrading of 15 primary schools – RM200,000 per school; SMK Dudong construction – RM30 million; SK Dudong construction – RM30 million.
Others are, he stated, Housing Development Corporation (HDC) loans for 22 longhouses – RM12 million; Citizen Secondary School’s construction of new hostel replacing the old hostel damaged by fire in Oct 2020 – RM1,264,800; Durin Community and Cultural Centre – RM5.8 million, and UNIFOR approvals – Wan Ming Methodist Church (RM1 million); and Ta Wang Kong Temple, Sg Menyan (RM250,000).
In a press statement today (Jan 5), Wong, who is also Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Dudong branch chairman, said the future projects will include Olympic-sized swimming and diving pool in Sibu Jaya; Agricultural Park in Dudong – aiming to establish a 1,000–2,000-acre fruit and food basket for Sarawak; Tourism Development of Rejang River – collaborative efforts with Sibu Municipal Council (SMC).
He pointed out that he has obtaIned approval of RM123 million worth of projects for Dudong which manifested his passion and persistence to serve the area.
