BAU: The project to upgrade Jalan Kampung Tanjung Poting, Kampung Tanjung Bowang, and Kampung Senibong in the Singai area will soon be implemented.

According to a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) report, Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep said the project had been applied for in 2016 but faced constraints related to the prior change in federal government administrative powers.

Nevertheless, he expressed gratitude that the road upgrading project could be continued after the Perikatan Nasional (PN) led the federal government.

“Actually, before this there was already a plan, but that was the issue faced as to why the project took almost five years to be carried out.

“As it was delayed for two years, the project is started this year,” he said during the handover ceremony of compensation cheques for the upgrading project of Jalan Kampung Tanjung Poting, Kampung Tanjung Bowang, and Kampung Senibong on Monday (Feb 22).

During the ceremony, a total of 99 persons received land compensation payments amounting to RM1.76mil, whereas four more packages will be paid later by the Sarawak Land and Survey Department (JTS).

Also present were Bau District Officer Anielia Siam and JTS Kuching Division Superintendent Alfian Bawi.

Henry said the road upgrading project, once implemented, would facilitate the movement of residents as well as prevent floods from occurring.

He hoped that residents who were yet to receive land compensations would be patient and continue to cooperate with the relevant authorities.
