KUCHING: Special Hari Raya Aidilfitri visits for prison inmates will be allowed on the third and fourth days of Hari Raya, the Malaysian Prisons Department announced.

In a statement, the department said the visits will cover all prison institutions, including moral rehabilitation centers, special rehabilitation centers, special detention centers, and the Henry Gurney School.

“The conditions for visits and special meetings during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration are as follows: Visiting hours are from 8.15 am to 4.15 pm.

“Visitors are required to bring their identification card and visit card to facilitate the process.

“Visitors are not allowed to bring any food or drinks for the inmates, but food and drinks can be purchased from the prison canteen. Priority for visits will be given to Muslim inmates,” it said.

The department also reminded visitors not to give money to inmates, as their basic necessities are provided. Any specific financial needs, such as exam fees, should be handled through official prison receipts (PPT.28).

Additionally, all visitors are subject to prison regulations, which allow authorities to conduct physical inspections upon entry and exit.

For those unable to visit in person, online meetings will be available from April 4 to April 6 to ensure families can still connect with their loved ones.
