KUCHING: Some 100 primary and secondary school students from Petra Jaya received donations in conjunction with the month of Ramadan at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Building on Friday night (March 15).
This initiative was spearheaded by the Malaysian Government Servants’ Welfare and Sports Council (MAKSAK) Women Sarawak.
Its honorary secretary, Norhayati Mornie, stated that the donation falls under the MAKSAK Cares programme.
“The programme is also held in conjunction with the Breaking of Fast ceremony, Maghrib, Isyak, and Tarawih prayers attended by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and civil servants at the DUN building.”
Meanwhile, MAKSAK Women Sarawak chairperson Datin Amar Baduyah Bujang also expressed appreciation to the Kuching District Education Office for facilitating the coordination with schools to identify the recipients of these donations.
MAKSAK Women’s Exco provided each recipient with a cash aid of RM100, a bath towel, along with boxes of dates and sarong from the Sarawak Premier’s Office.
The objective of the initiative is to share blessings with those in need and perform good deeds during Ramadan through the MAKSAK Cares programme, and to assist school students from less fortunate families in the Petra Jaya area.
The recipients are students from Kolej Datu Patinggi Abang Haji Abdillah, SMK Agama Tun Ahmad Zaidi, SMK Demak Baru, SMK Petra Jaya, SMK Semerah Padi, SMK Tunku Abdul Rahman, SK Encik Buyong, SK Rakyat Tupong, SK Gita, SK Madrasah Datuk Haji Abdul Kadir Hasan, SK Merpati Japang, SK Rakyat, SK Rancangan Perumahan Rakyat, SK Semariang, SK Semerah Padi, SK Siol Kanan, and SK TS Datuk Dr Hj Sulaiman Daud.
