KUCHING: A local philanthropist has suggested that Malaysia follow the footsteps of major nations in making necessary arrangements with various major drug manufacturers to secure enough vaccine to protect its people against Covid-19.

“Do we have to be at the end of the global queue for the vaccine to fight the deadly pathogen? The national reserves can most probably help,” said Datuk Seri Ang Lai Soon.

He said this was the most critical time in human history, adding, “You either survive and lead a normal life if you have the vaccine or be in a permanent state of misery and may possibly die if you don’t!”

“This is the time when the national reserves of any country could help,” he said in a statement issued yesterday.

According to Ang, the United States, United Kingdom, European Union and Japan had locked up over a billion doses of coronavirus vaccine.

“All other nations that have substantial national reserves must seriously put aside all differences and consider making this unprecedented landmark decision to save their people and their economies.”

He strongly appealed to all lawmakers to consider the proposal to save the lives of their citizens and eventually the economy of each of their respective countries.

Ang said this was a non-political matter that should be decided by the highest legislative body of any country immediately.

“Every second counts and do not procrastinate and end up at the end of the global queue for the lifeline!”
