GEDONG: Sarawak is set to produce a high value algae-based technology that is expected to benefit the airline industry.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said he would announce the new technology which will be a new economy source for Sarawak in the next two weeks.

“It has a high value and unexpectedly, algae can produce substance needed by the airline industry.

“And Sarawak will be the first in the world to produce it. With this, our future will be brighter in terms of our incomes,” he added.

He said this during a Majlis Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri here on Sunday.

Meanwhile, touching on Sarawak’s own boutique airline, Abang Johari said it would not only fly passengers but also for cargo services to market Sarawak products to international markets especially in South East Asia countries.

“Our Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has approved for us to set up the airline, the details will be announced later as I cannot reveal the business model yet.

“The way we manage our airline company will be different from others and we have our own business model.

“And this will provide low fare tickets for our people,” he assured.
