KUCHING: The position of the “Chief Minister” will be renamed as “Premier” with the tabling of the Constitution of the State of Sarawak (Amendment) Bill, 2022 in the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN).
Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah was reported to have said that the Bill will be tabled on Tuesday (Feb 15), the second day of the DUN sitting.
The Bill seeks to amend Article 6(3) of the Sarawak Constitution by substituting the words “Chief Minister” with “Premier”.
The Bill once passed will come into force on a date to be appointed by the Yang-di-Pertua Negeri by notification in the Gazette.
DUN Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohd Asfia Awang Nassar on Saturday (Feb 12) announced that five bills would be tabled during the DUN sitting.
The new Bills are the Sago and Nipah Development Board Bill, 2022; Sarawak Rubber Industry Board Bill, 2022; Supplementary Supply (2021) Bill, 2022; Constitution of the State of Sarawak (Amendment) Bill, 2022 and Interpretation (Amendment) Bill, 2022.
Asfia said the Supplementary Supply (2021) Bill, 2022 would be tabled by Finance Minister II Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas. He added that there would be no amendment or debate on the Supplementary Supply Bill.
He said the Constitution of the State of Sarawak (Amendment) Bill, 2022 would be tabled by Abdul Karim.
“The Interpretation (Amendment) Bill, 2022 will be tabled by the Assistant Minister in The Chief Minister’s Department (Law, MA63 and State-Federal Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali.
“Meanwhile, the Sago and Nipah Development Board Bill, 2022 and the Sarawak Rubber Industry Board Bill, 2022 will be tabled by Minister for Modernisation of Agriculture and Regional Development Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom,” he said.
