MIRI: Sarawakian students will soon have access to a broader range of modern academic disciplines under the state’s free tertiary education initiative, set to be announced in October.
Among the new offerings are degree programmes in Construction Management under the Bachelor of Science framework, which will complement existing courses such as Accounting.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said these new disciplines aim to provide more practical and future-relevant study options for the younger generation.
“This is what we want to do for our children,” he said during a Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration with community leaders at the Miri Indoor Stadium here, today (Apr 5).
The event was organised by a coalition of 30 associations and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) under the banner of the Miri Islamic Organisations Alliance. It brought together groups of diverse backgrounds and objectives, united under one platform.
Over 3,000 guests attended the festive gathering, which showcased the spirit of unity and collaboration among the Muslim community and the wider Sarawakian society.
“This effort to unite, as demonstrated today, must be nurtured and further strengthened for the well-being of our people, especially the Muslim community, and Sarawakians as a whole,” said Abang Johari.
