PUTRAJAYA: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg joined key national and international leaders at the 11th Malaysia-Singapore Leaders’ Retreat, held at the Perdana Putra Complex here Tuesday (Jan 7).
The high-level meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, also saw the participation of Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.
Discussions centered on strengthening bilateral ties and advancing collaborative initiatives between the two nations.
Abang Johari later witnessed a joint press conference by the leaders, followed by the signing of the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) Joint Agreement.
This landmark agreement aims to boost economic integration and development in the region.
Additionally, six memorandums of understanding (MoUs) and one Letter of Intent (LOI) were formalised, focusing on key areas such as education, women’s and social welfare, climate change, carbon capture and storage, urban development, and combating transnational crime.
The Premier then joined a luncheon with delegations from both governments before holding a closed-door meeting with Anwar in the afternoon.
Abang Johari’s visit to the capital will extend until Thursday (Jan 9).
He is scheduled to attend the Malaysia Economic Forum, where discussions are expected to focus on the nation’s economic direction and opportunities for regional cooperation.
Also present at the retreat were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, and Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.
