KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has expressed his deepest sympathies over the loss of lives in the Miri landslide incident.
“In Miri, several lives have been lost, and I have asked Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas to monitor the situation over the next two to three days, as the Meteorological Department has issued warnings about ongoing rain,” he said.
Abang Johari said this when met by reporters here, last night (Jan 29).
The Premier also noted that Bintulu is experiencing severe flooding, impacting villages, residential areas, and even industrial zones.
He urged residents in other flood-prone areas to remain vigilant as adverse weather conditions persist.
“As a result, some companies have shut down operations due to safety concerns.
“Currently, the Deputy State Secretary’s administration is in Miri and Bintulu to assess and monitor the latest situation,” he added.
He also pointed out that the Sarawak government will give serious attention to high-risk areas to prevent recurrence of similar incidents.
Yesterday, at around 2.40 am, a landslide occurred in Kampung Lereng Bukit, Miri, involving two houses and
