KUCHING: Urban Empire Builders Sdn Bhd’s (UEB) new precast concrete plant will be a game changer in constructing the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) and the state’s future elevated bridges and roads.

Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Michael Tiang said with advanced technology, high-quality production, and eco-friendly practices, the facility will support Sarawak’s growing infrastructure needs while setting new benchmarks in the precast concrete industry.

“This plant represents more than just a physical structure, it is a symbol of progress, innovation, and commitment.

“In other words, this new precast concrete plant will serve as a game changer to construct especially the Red Line package in KUTS whereby UEB is the successful bidder for its construction at 12.3km long, of which 6.3km is elevated.

“This facility also holds potential for the construction of all the future elevated bridges and roads in Sarawak, faster, cheaper with high precision and quality,” he said.

He said this at the soft opening of KUTS Precast Concrete Facilities and Chinese New Year (CNY) celebration at KUTS Redline Precast Plant here Saturday (Jan 25).

Meanwhile, the Urban Empire Builders Sdn Bhd director Mike Chin said that today marks a new era for Sarawak’s elevated bridge and road construction with the opening of Sarawak’s largest precast concrete plant, spanning 12 acres.

“This facility is dedicated to producing bridge pier caps, long-span girders, and parapet walls with the following integrated project management camp with a project management office, management staff quarters, worker quarters, canteen, landscaped garden and recreation hall.

“And also four heavy duty gantry crane ranging from 20 to 120 tons, a fully automated rebar cutting and bending machine, 22 production lines of 1200 tons capacity prestressing girders, 14 production lines for piercaps, T Beams and portal frame, 90m3 per hour capacity concrete batching plant and storage capacity of 400 beam girders and 100 pier caps,” he said.

He added that the UEB’s new RM20 million precast concrete plant is 100 per cent owned by Sarawakian contractors.

“This is an evidence that Sarawakian contractors are able to develop and embrace new construction technology to compete with other established international contractors,” he said.

In December 2023, UEB formed a Consortium with Sri Datai Sdn Bhd and China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) Construction (M) Sdn Bhd and won the KUTS Red Line package.

He said that UEB, established in 2018, is a new-generation builder committed to green and sustainable construction by adopting the Industrialised Building System (IBS), value engineering, and green products.

“Hence, UEB hopes the state government will continue supporting local contractors who excel in adopting new construction technologies by providing more opportunities and sustainable projects, helping them grow and compete locally and internationally,” he said.
