KUCHING: The Sarawak Government Pensioners Association (PPKS) has been encouraged to explore opportunities in the cooperative and energy sectors as part of efforts to diversify its income sources and sustain its organisational activities.
Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability and Demak Laut assemblyman Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni said cooperatives could serve as a strategic platform to strengthen the association’s financial standing.
He added that the energy sector offers a new avenue for retired civil servants to remain productive by tapping into their years of experience in government service.
“PPKS can seize this opportunity to get involved in the rapidly growing energy field, which in turn can bring long-term benefits to its members,” he said when officiating the association’s 51st Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Dormani Hotel on Saturday (April 19).
As a gesture of appreciation for the retirees’ decades of service in developing the state, Dr Hazland also presented RM40,000 in funds to PPKS.
The AGM gathered 150 delegates from across Sarawak and saw the appointment of Datuk Mohamed Sepuan Anu as the new president, along with a refreshed leadership team.
Founded on August 30, 1971, PPKS currently has 8,445 members across 11 divisional and district liaison units statewide. The association continues to play an active role in safeguarding members’ welfare and encouraging the contributions of retirees to society.
