KUCHING: Pertubuhan Pembangunan Insan Sarawak (PPIS) president, Manjeet Kaur Sidhu, hosted an open house in celebration of Deepavali 2023 at her residence here today.

The event was attended by Sarawak ministers, friends, and members of the press, fostering a spirit of gratitude and unity.

The gathering, expected to host around 300 guests, commenced with the presence of Deputy Minister of Women, Early Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development, Datuk Rosey Yunus.

Manjeet expressed that the occasion was not only a celebration of Deepavali but also a gesture of gratitude towards those who have supported her endeavours and recognised her achievements.

“It’s all about recognising and thanking friends, the press, and everyone who’s been a constant support towards me and my organisation,” she told New Sarawak Tribune today.

This year, she has been honoured with prestigious accolades, including the Sarawak Premier Award for Female Social Activist and the Outstanding Women Achiever Award by Queen Book Malaysia.

Reflecting on her future plans with PPIS, she revealed that the non-governmental organisation (NGO) is committed to addressing welfare issues in rural communities.

“We have just received the rice supply for the Rice Against Hunger Programme, and we are going all out to a lot of rural areas to hand over the supplies, and educate them on how to use and distribute them.

“Next year, we will be focusing on Padawan, collaborating with Puncak Borneo MP Willie Mongin, as his area needs a helping hand due to the population residing up in the hills,” she explained.

Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Snowdan Lawan, Women, Early Childhood and Community Well-being Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, and other ministers are expected to grace the event.
