SEB has the expertise and engineering skills for the job: CM
SEB KUCHING: Sarawak Energy Bhd (SEB) wants to sell more electricity to neighbouring West Kalimantan, Indonesia.
“As of now we have established our first power interconnection with West Kalimantan,” said Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Considering that Indonesia is considering relocating its capital city from Jakarta in Java to some place in Kalimantan, the matter being mulled is in the right direction as the new city would need lots of power.
Abang Johari said while discussions with Sabah and Brunei for further power exchange agreements are maturing, the state is currently going on with the Borneo Grid initiative which involves extending the power grid to Kalimantan.
SEB has the expertise and engineering skills ready to be utilised for the work with Indonesia, he said during SEB’s Gawai-Raya get-together for its Kuching-based staff and stakeholders here yesterday.
The “Majlis Sambutan Gawai-Raya” yesterday was hosted by SEB chairman Datuk Amar Abdul Hamed Sepawi along with group chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Sharbini Suhaili, and SEB general manager for Land and Wayleave, Sipol Ambun.
In his speech Hamed said that the event was a part of Sarawak Energy’s corporate culture to promote inclusiveness and respect.
“Our workforce reflects the population of Sarawak, representing the major groups in the state, and today we celebrate our diversity and unity,” he said.
Hamed also shared SEB’s key highlights and successes in the past year, and he thanked the staff for their roles in providing energy to the state.
“One of our major initiatives this year is to accelerate rural electrification. We are working with the Utilities Ministry to supply reliable, renewable and affordable electricity to our most remote communities.
“Our state domestic coverage is 97 per cent now and our aim is to power up 99 per cent of Sarawak by 2020 and full electrification by 2025,” he said.
Hamed added, “We are on an ongoing journey of improvement and we are pleased that we have recorded some major achievements. As a government-owned corporation in service to the people of Sarawak, SEB will continue to pursue opportunities for growth and support the government’s agenda for a greater Sarawak and a sustainable future.”
SEB is a power utility and energy developer supplying electricity throughout Sarawak and serves as the catalyst of the state’s development agenda.
