KUCHING: There was a decrease of 429 or 31.52 per cent of criminal cases last year, said ACP Ahsmon Bajah.
The district police chief pointed out that despite various constraints and challenges they also achieved 30 out of 32 of their key performance indicators (KPI).
“However, the decrease (unfortunately) was not a reflection of the real-life situation.
“Community leaders and some citizens had expressed their fears and worries about the crimes that are happening (around them).
“Therefore, this year, we will overcome the challenges to successfully achieve all 32 KPI targets and reduce the fear of crimes within the community,” he said, noting that the community tended to feel safe when the police are committed to performing their duties well.
He said this during the monthly assembly of the district police at the headquarters today.
Ahsmon further reminded the police that police initiatives and efforts must be accepted and felt by the community.
“The services that we deliver must be relevant or appropriate to the community,” he said.
During the assembly, 23 senior police officers were awarded letters of appreciation having been promoted from assistant superintendents to deputy superintendents. Two officers were promoted from sergeant to sergeant major, and 16 were promoted from corporal to time-based sergeant.
Sixteen officers received letters of appreciation from the commissioner for their commitment to disabling 15 online gambling centres in the district.
“With this, I hope that the city police will be one of the most excellent police districts. To achieve this in 2022, we need to further strengthen our commitment to our duties and responsibilities,” Ahsmon said.
