Police seize RM86,051 worth of drugs in Sibu

SIBU: A joint operation by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division of the Sibu District Police Headquarters led to the arrest of a 41-year-old local man following a vehicle stop along Jalan Pedada at approximately 1.35pm on Thursday (Oct 10).

Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said during the inspection, police discovered 34 plastic packages of various sizes containing crystalline substances suspected to be Methamphetamine, weighing a total of 139.07g.

“Additionally seized are 15 foil-wrapped pill packs, each containing 10 pills, amounting to 150 pills suspected to be Erimin 5, with a gross weight of 41.78g.

“Further investigations at a residence on Jalan Tuah yielded a significant cache of illegal substances, including 439 plastic packages of various sizes containing crystalline substances, believed to be Methamphetamine, with an estimated weight of 1,149.00g.

“Police also found 13 clear packages containing crystals suspected to be Ketamine, weighing approximately 73.71g, and 60 foil-wrapped pill packs containing 600 pills suspected to be Erimin 5, with a total weight of 167.34g,” he said.

The total estimated value of the drugs seized is around RM86,051, with an aggregate weight of approximately 1.5kg. Authorities also confiscated a Honda Accord valued at RM15,000 and RM6,600 in cash, suspected to be proceeds from drug sales.

A urine screening conducted on the suspect revealed positive results for Methamphetamine, Amphetamine, Ketamine, and Benzodiazepines.

The suspect has been detained under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a mandatory death penalty upon conviction. Additionally, he is facing charges under Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act, which could lead to a fine not exceeding RM5,000, imprisonment for up to two years, or both, along with two years of supervision under Section 38B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

The suspect is currently remanded for six days from October 11 to October 17, 2024, to assist in ongoing investigations.
