Police seek help to trace robbery suspect

KUCHING: Police here are on the hunt for a male suspect who snatched a woman’s handbag by forcing her to stop her vehicle on the road with his motorcycle.

The incident was captured on the victim’s dash-cam and shared on Facebook.

The victim was forced to stop her car after the suspect rear-ended the car with his motorcycle.

In the 27-second video clip, the suspect wearing a yellow helmet and a grey and white long sleeved shirt is seen running towards his motorcycle after snatching the victim’s handbag.

The victim tried to chase down the suspect but failed as the suspect sped off immediately.

Kuching district police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah who confirmed the case, said efforts to track down the suspect, were still ongoing.

“We have opened three investigation papers under Section 392 of the Penal Code for unarmed robbery.

“If convicted, the suspect may face a jail sentence up to 14 years, a fine and caning,” he said.

The public are urged to channel any information pertaining to the case to the nearest police station.
