MIRI: Six local men were detained by the police on Thursday night for alleged burglary at a handicraft shop last month.
In the October 9 incident, items worth RM5,000 were stolen. When the men were arrested, some of the items were recovered.
All the suspects aged between 28 and 44 were picked up by CID police at various locations during an operation codenamed ‘Ops Cantas’ from 10.30pm to 10.50pm.
One of the suspects has two previous criminal records under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
Miri police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah, confirmed the arrests when contacted today.
Preliminary investigations revealed that two of the suspects entered the shop at Jalan Brooke and stole items that included parang Ilang (Dayak traditional sword), traditional rattan bags, two traditional belts (lampit), and a blow pipe. They later sold the items to four persons.
The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code.
