MIRI: A police report has been lodged following the discovery of a suspicious social media account impersonating Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts I (Tourism), Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew.
The fraudulent account, which bears the name ‘Sebastian Ting’ but lacks a profile picture and detailed information, is believed to have been created for potential scams or misinformation.
In response, Ting’s Private Secretary, Chia Kar Furng, and Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Piasau Branch Secretary, Kelvin Chia Kah Leong, have reported the matter to both the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), urging immediate action to remove the account.
The public is advised to ignore any friend requests or messages from unauthorised accounts using Datuk Sebastian Ting’s name and to remain vigilant against possible fraudulent activities.
Suspicious accounts should be reported to the relevant authorities.
