MIRI: The Miri District Police chief has responded to concerns raised in a recent article published by See Hua Daily News on Feb 11, 2025, titled Homeowner Complaints of Unsatisfactory Handling by Miri Police. House Burglarised for a Month.
ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said in a press statement on Friday that the article highlighted grievances from a local homeowner regarding the police’s handling of a burglary case.
“A report was filed by the complainant on January 29, and the case was investigated under Section 453 of the Penal Code. On February 1, two male suspects were arrested in connection with the incident.
“Both individuals were charged under Section 37(1) of the Sarawak Minor Offences Ordinance on February 5. The investigations are ongoing, with efforts to identify and apprehend other individuals involved in the crime,“ he said.
The complainant alleged in the See Hua Daily News article that the police delayed taking action, which they claimed led to the case remaining unresolved and allowed the criminals to evade justice. The police, however, have refuted these claims, stating that such allegations are unfounded.
He reminded the public that making or publishing false statements with malicious intent, which could harm the reputation of others, constitutes a criminal offence under defamation laws.
The police also urged the community to refrain from speculating or spreading unverified information on social media as it could cause unnecessary anxiety and distress among residents.
Additionally, the police advised the public to remain vigilant and enhance home security measures, such as installing CCTV cameras or alarm systems, to prevent similar incidents.
They encouraged anyone with relevant information to come forward and assist in the investigation by contacting the nearest police station or calling 085-433730.
