Police nab two foreigners on stolen motorcycles

BINTULU: Cops here detained two motorcycle thieves, believed to be illegal immigrants, during “Ops Lejang” recently.

The suspects are aged 26 and 18.

During the operation  held from Feb 11 to 12 in two separate locations here, police also seized two stolen motorcycles.

Bintulu police chief Superintendent Zulkipli Suhaili told a press conference here yesterday  preliminary investigation revealed that the motorcycles were reported missing on Feb 7 and Feb11.

“The first suspect was nabbed on Feb 11 (Monday) around 11pm during a raid led by Inspector Nixon Malang in Ulu Sebauh hours after the motorcycle was reported missing in Jalan Sultan Iskandar here,” he revealed.

He said the police team thought the suspect was acting suspiciously and was riding a motorcycle that was without a registration number plate.

On the second arrest, Supt Zulkipli said the suspect was believed to be connected to the first suspect who was arrested on Feb 11.

“The second suspect was detained at JalanTanjong Kidurong at around 10.45pm and a motorcycle was seized from him. That motorcycle was reported missing from a flat at Jalan Bintulu/Tatau here on Feb 7,” he said.

Both suspects are  detained at Bintulu police station to assist police probe on the case.

The case is being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code for motorcycle theft and Section 6(1)( c)  of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for entering the country without valid documents.
