KAPIT: Local police have smashed the notorious housebreaking gang called ‘Pecah Rumah Geng Joseph’ following several raids and the consequent arrest of suspects.
Kapit police chief DSP Freddy Bian said the break-ins in and around Kapit were committed on May 23, May 28 and Jun 2.
At a press conference yesterday, Freddy said leading the raids were Inspector Sivaneswaran Nadarajah, Inspector Ugendra Nesaratnam, Sergeant Mavius Bunatol and Sergeant Roland Gasah.
He said these officers and their men arrested three suspects, one of whom was a “restricted resident”.
All three suspects are detained at the Kapit police station and are expected to be charged in the Kapit Magistrate’s Court on June 20.
Besides the arrests, police also seized various items, including a television set, laptop, public address (PA) system, loud speaker, recorder, gas cylinder, generator, padi thrasher, bush cutter, leather shoes, decorative souvenir ‘parang’ and a stainless steel BBQ container.
Prior to the raids and arrest, a café along Jalan Yong Muk Chai here was broken into on May 23. One of the stolen items was a stainless steel BBQ container.
Also, on May 23, a farmhouse along Jalan Sungai Ulu Yong was broken into, and among items stolen were a generator, bush cutter and padi thrasher.
On May 28 a house near Sungai Kapit, Jalan Bukit Goram was broken into and among items stolen were a television set, laptop, PA system, loud speaker, recorder, leather shoes, gas cylinder tank and a decorative souvenir ‘parang’.
A day later on May 29, a residential house at Taman Olive Park was broken into and a computer was reported stolen.
On June 2 a residential house at KM3 Jalan Pelajau reported losing a television set, DVD recorder and generator following a break-in.
“It is your responsibility to look after your property. I would like to remind all shopkeepers and house owners to take preventive measures to ensure the security of their homes and business premises,” Freddy said.
Also present at the press conference were ASP Chiew Swoi Kee and ASP Floria Richardson.
