SARIKEI: A total of 25 rural road projects have been approved under the Projek Mesra Rakyat (PMR) initiative in the Sarikei constituency to enhance infrastructure and support rural communities.

These projects are financed through allocations requested by the Deputy Minister of Natural Resources, Environment, and Climate Change, the Member of Parliament for Sarikei, Datuk Sri Huang Tiong Sii, from the Sarawak State Development Office.

Twenty-two projects are slated for the Meradong area, while the remaining three are designated for Repok. Work on these projects is set to begin shortly, with an estimated implementation period of one month.

Earlier today, a briefing session took place in the Meeting Room of the Sarikei Representative Center. Organized by the implementing agency, the Public Works Department (JKR), the session was attended by Kapitan Ling Dien Yong, representing Huang, along with various local leaders.

Discussions primarily revolved around the technical aspects of the projects, addressing emerging issues, and outlining work scopes that align with the beneficiaries’ needs within the allocated budget.

Huang conveyed his optimism that the execution of these projects would significantly impact the socio-economic development of rural areas.

“These road facilities will enhance basic connectivity for rural residents, ultimately uplifting their quality of life,” he remarked.
