KUCHING: Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob as well as several Sarawak leaders took to social media to congratulate powerlifter Jong Yee Khie for bagging Malaysia second medal at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
“Thank you, Jong Yee Khie for presenting the Malaysian Family with a silver medal in the men’s 107kg by lifting 237kg.
“You have successfully taken up the challenge to ensure that the Jalur Gemilang flies in Tokyo,” said the Prime Minister.
Ismail Sabri also conveyed his appreciation to the coach and the Malaysian contingent.
Meanwhile, Sarawak Local Government and Housing Minister, and Batu Kawah assemblyman, Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian also extended his congratulations to Jong.
“Heartiest congratulations to Jong Yee Khie, the powerlifter from Batu Kawa, Kuching for winning the silver medal (107kg category) at the Tokyo Paralympic Games.
“Sarawak is proud of you,” said Dr Sim.
Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii said Sarawakians were indeed proud of Jong.
“Congratulations! We are proud of you! Sarawakians are a strong bunch.”
Meanwhile, Sarawak Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said this was another great achievement from an athlete from Sarawak at the Tokyo Games.
“All Malaysians and Sarawakians are proud of your achievement as well as Bonnie’s.
“I hope these achievements will inspire others to go for more glory in their respective fields at global level,” he said on Monday (Aug 30).
On Saturday, Sarawakian powerlifter Bonnie Bunyau Gustin delivered Malaysia first medal at the Tokyo Games when he won gold, setting a new Paralympic record in the men’s 72kg.
