MIRI: A foreigner who worked at an oil palm plantation in Suai, Niah was found dead sandwiched between a multipurpose vehicle that he was driving and an oil palm tree on Wednesday morning.

According to Miri police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah, it was believed that the incident occurred at 11.30am that day when the deceased — identified as Kamaruddin Amir, 35 — was transporting palm oil fruits using the vehicle.

“He lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a leaning oil palm tree,” he said when contacted on Thursday, adding that Kamaruddin died on the spot.

His body was taken to Miri Hospital for a post-mortem.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
