KANOWIT: Ngemah assemblyman Anyi Jana has called for the cultivation of dabai and durian trees in the Lepong Ngemah area given its agricultural potential.

He said the soil and geographical conditions of the area made it a suitable spot for such agricultural activities.

The whole area can ultimately further improve the socio-economy of its people if it is managed commercially and systematically, he said.

Anyi said this while attending a programme with the Lepong Ngemah Agriculture Committee, here on Saturday (Feb 26).

The programme organised by the Jaya Tani Committee, Phase 1 Lepong Ngemah, Kanowit is to form a development committee to plan agricultural activities in the area together with the Kanowit Agriculture Department.

He hoped that the District Agriculture Department would give the necessary support on the proposals and wishes of the residents in the Lepong Ngemah area.

Also present were Kanowit District Agriculture supervising officer Nicholas Jati, Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Ngemah women chief Mutang Kerani and Jaya Tani Committee Phase 1 Lepong Ngemah chairman James Tinting.
