KUCHING: Place Borneo Sdn Bhd recently formalised a strategic partnership with the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS), making the company a vital part of the state’s mission to eliminate rabies and achieve a rabies-free Sarawak by 2030.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by DVS director Datuk Dr Adrian Susin Ambud and Place Borneo chief executive officer Mona Abdul Manap.
Both parties stressed the significance of this public-private collaboration in advancing Sarawak’s comprehensive rabies eradication programme.
“Achieving a rabies-free Sarawak by 2030 is a top priority,” Adrian said.
Beyond the Rabies in Borneo (RIB) Conference 2025, their efforts include continuous mass vaccination campaigns, responsible pet ownership awareness programmes, community pet walk events, and other grassroots initiatives.
“This MoU reflects our commitment to mobilise all stakeholders towards a common goal,” he said.
Among the flagship initiatives under the rabies eradication programme is the fourth edition of the RIB Conference 2025.
It is scheduled to take place from September 30 to October 1 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).
It is jointly organised by Place Borneo and DVS, with the support of the Sarawak government through the Ministry of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development (M-FICORD) and Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak).
The conference will bring together local and international experts, policymakers and communities to share best practices, address emerging challenges, and develop actionable strategies for rabies prevention and control.
Importantly, the legacy impact of the RIB Conference 2025 will extend far beyond the four walls of the conference hall.
The conference is designed to directly engage communities through various impactful programmes, including mass vaccination drives, responsible pet ownership campaigns, and other public awareness activities that are integrated as part of the conference agenda.
Sarawak’s fight against rabies is driven by a holistic eradication programme that includes community engagement, public education, enforcement of control measures, and partnerships with government and private agencies.
The signing of this MoU marks a significant milestone in Sarawak’s ongoing fight against rabies and reaffirms the crucial role of partnerships between the government, the private sector and civil society in safeguarding the health and well-being of both people and animals.
