KUCHING: The first three-in-one multi-fuel refuelling station in the country located at Darul Hana, here is expected to be operational by 2021.
According to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, the building of the Petros refuelling station is part of the state government’s approach to introduce the use of the environmentally friendly hydrogen fuel.
“We are embarking on a new approach whereby we will have three-in-one petrol stations. The first will be refuelling using fossil fuel, and secondly using electric for electric vehicles and thirdly using hydrogen fuel.
“This is the first time in Malaysia that we have a three-in-one multi-fuel refuelling station and I was informed that the second one will be built in Batu Kawa,” he said.
He said this during the ground breaking ceremony of the Darul Hana Multi-Fuel Refuelling Station at Jalan Tun Salahuddin, here today.
Addressing the frequently asked question of why Petros is offering three types of fuel instead of the conventional fossil fuels, Abang Johari said it was due to the carbon emissions of these fuels which in turn, would cause pollution to the environment.
“The answer is because fossil fuels emit smoke and whatever vehicle that runs on fossil fuels will also emit smoke. And these pollute our air,” he said.
He pointed out that vehicles running on electricity generated from batteries.
However, he noted that the component of the batteries, namely Lithium, is not environmentally friendly in addition to its heavy weight.
“This is why I believe that hydrogen will be one of the most important fuels in the coming future,” he added.
The symbolic ground breaking ceremony was performed by Abang Johari. He was accompanied by Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian, Transport Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin, Assistant Minister of Utilities Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Husain, Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Satok deputy chairman Datuk Ibrahim Baki and other dignitaries.
