KUCHING: A Philatelic & Numismatic Fair will be held at the lower ground of The Hill’s Shopping Mall here on May 1 to 5 (from 10am to 10pm). Admission is free.
The fair is organised twice yearly by the Philatelic Society of Kuching, Sarawak (PSKS) i.e. in May and November.
The fair is supported by stamp dealers in Malaysia and Singapore. Collectors will have opportunities to purchase stamps, first day covers, bank notes, coins and other collectibles without having to travel all over Malaysia and Singapore.
On May 3, PSKS will also conduct a talk on Sarawak Philatelic. This event is jointly organised by PSKS, Sarawak Steamship, Sarawak Specialist Society (SSS) and St. Thomas Secondary School.
The main speakers are members of the Sarawak Specialists’ Society, a group of stamp collectors from the United Kingdom (UK) who specialise in the study of stamps and the postal histories of Sarawak, North Borneo (Sabah), Labuan and Brunei.
The society was founded in 1947 and they are here to share their knowledge on Sarawak and Borneo Philately. This talk will be conducted at the Lecture Hall of St Thomas School, from 1.30pm to 4.30pm. Admission is free.
PSKS also organises weekly meetings for its members at Taiwan Siau Jou, Hui Sing Garden during the weekends, either on Saturdays or Sundays from 2pm to 4pm.
During these meetings, sales of stamps and other collectibles are conducted through a simple bidding process. Members also share knowledge from historical postmarks to historical buildings and places of history in Sarawak.
Those interested to be members can call Charles Ling (012-8877905) or Olivia Lim (019-8862322) or Connie Andrew (013-8011191).
