KUALA LUMPUR: Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS) has established bilateral cooperation with Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) in managing oil and gas, including offshore exploration in Sarawak’s waters.
These were agreed to during discussions between the Sarawak government and Petronas at the 3rd Annual Strategic Dialogue (ASD) Sarawak – Petronas which was held at the Petronas Twin Towers, Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday.

According to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, the dialogue under the Commercial Agreement between Sarawak and Petronas also touched on the Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) industry as well as the Petronas corporate social responsibility (CSR) in the field of education.
“We have discussed a lot of matters related to CCUS, and secondly, regarding the social responsibility of Petronas to help us including in education.
“The third matter is on strengthening the cooperation between Petronas and Petros in managing the oil and gas field including offshore exploration,” he said when met by reporters after chairing the dialogue with Petronas chairman, Tan Sri Mohd Bakke Salleh.

He added that the Sarawak government was ready to cooperate with Petronas in exploring alternative energy production other than oil and gas.
“And it is also possible that our cooperation is outside of fields other than oil and gas because right now we are facing climate problems and we have alternative energy such as hydrogen.
“We can discuss together to explore other energies apart from oil and gas because I think that the value of oil and gas will decrease from a global business context due to the existence of alternative energy that will be used by the industry.
“This dialogue is very successful and it will bring returns and prosperity to Sarawak,” he said.
The dialogue lasted about two and a half hours and was also attended by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, Sarawak State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Office (Law, MA63 and State-Federal Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali and president and Group chief executive officer of Petronas Datuk Tengku Muhammad Taufik Tengku Kamadjaja Aziz.
Earlier, Abang Johari received a courtesy visit from Tengku Muhammad Taufik.
