KAPIT: Yayasan Petronas, the corporate social responsibility arm of Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas), is contributing food essentials to some 300 underprivileged families here in conjunction with the upcoming Gawai Dayak.
These food essentials include glutinous rice, white rice, cooking oil, sugar, salt, eggs, flour, condensed milk, sardines, cream crackers, and festive cookies.
Yayasan Petronas has kept in mind that during Gawai Dayak, celebrants usually serve roasted glutinous rice in bamboo (known as ngelulun pulut in Iban), chicken cooked in bamboo (known as manok pansoh), and other customary dishes to their guests.
In curbing the spread of Covid-19 during this period, the foundation is also distributing face masks and hygiene kits to these families.
The contribution was made under its signature Sentuhan Kasih Festive programme in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department (JKM).
“We hope our contribution will help the beneficiaries to celebrate Gawai Dayak in a meaningful way,” said Petronas Sarawak general manager Zulaihi Mantali.
The programme is part of Yayasan Petronas’ community wellbeing and development focus area and is also in line with the Petronas Sustainability Agenda and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
