KUCHING: More than 100 community leaders in Petra Jaya parliamentary constituency have expressed strong opposition to the establishment of the Federal Village Community Management Council (MPKKP) in Sarawak.

Kuching North Pemanca Melayu Roslie Sahari said the establishment of MPKKP would disunite Sarawakians who have been living in harmony for years.

He stressed that there was no need for the council as it would create chaos in villages.

“Villages and longhouses with two opposing leaders will cause a lot of confusion. Therefore, we strongly reject the MPKKP to as it is not our culture (a village with two leaders),” he said at a press conference at the Kampung Pinang Jawa Multi-purpose Hall here, yesterday.

Roslie said the existing Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) had done its job very well. According to him, a seminar will be held in the near future to gather all the community leaders from all over Sarawak to protest the establishment of the MPKKP.
