KUCHING: The Petra Jaya Golf Challenge 2024 tournament is set to take place on Jan 12, featuring three teams from the state constituencies under the Petra Jaya parliamentary constituency.

Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Samariang Branch deputy chief and chairman of the organising committee for the tournament, Abdul Baderi Sahmat, stated that the annual event will witness intense competition among the teams from DUN Tupong, Samariang and Satok, vying for the Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof Challenge Trophy.

“This is a friendly tournament aimed at promoting and strengthening ties among golfers in the Petra Jaya parliamentary constituency.

“Even if they reside outside the Petra Jaya area, as long as they are voters in the constituency, they are eligible to participate.”

Abdul Baderi was speaking at a press conference for the tournament at the Sarawak Golf Club (KGS) here on Tuesday (Jan 7).

Meanwhile, he shared that a total of 120 players will represent their respective DUN constituencies, with each team consisting of 40 players who are also registered voters in Petra Jaya.

The tournament will use a stroke play format, and players will be divided into three categories, with the champion team determined based on the best net scores from the top seven players in each category.

Additionally, Deputy Prime Minister and Petra Jaya MP Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof is scheduled to attend the event to present prizes on the same day.

This tournament marks its 14th anniversary since it was first held, although it was paused for two years in 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
