KUCHING: Quick action by firefighters helped save eight dogs at the Loving Pets shop at Tabuan Heights, Jalan Song here, which caught fire early yesterday.

However, two dogs were reported missing by the owner of the shop.

According to a spokesman of the State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), 19 personnel from Tabuan Jaya and Batu Lintang fire stations were dispatched to the scene in two fire engines and an EMRS vehicle after receiving a distress call at 3.48am.

The spokesman said the firefighters arrived at the scene 14 minutes later and saw thick smoke billowing from the shop.

“The firefighters had to use a ventilation fan to blow the smoke away before entering the shop. About 70 per cent of the shop, measuring 30×90 feet, was destroyed in the 3.45am incident,” he said.

The spokesman said the cause of the fire and estimated loss had yet to be ascertained and the operations ended at 4.40am.

Police personnel and Sarawak Energy Berhad staff were also at the scene.

The two dogs reported missing by the owner of the Loving Pets shop.
