MUKAH: Pesta Bederun is not just about entertainment or celebration; it is also an opportunity to plan a better future for Balingian.

Balingian assemblyman Abdul Yakub Arbi stated that the event showcases the area’s vast development potential.

“We see its potential in terms of cultural tourism and a sustainable community economy.

“With this success, we hope it will serve as a catalyst for us to continue working hard to develop Balingian,” he said.

He made these remarks during the Persatuan Generasi Melanau Balingian (PGMB) Dinner and Pesta Bederun Balingian 2024 Appreciation Event at MK99 Restaurant recently.

Further elaborating, he said that Pesta Bederun also unites communities from diverse backgrounds.

At the same time, he noted that the event promotes local culture, traditions, and products, which helps boost the local economy.

In this regard, Yakub, who is also the Patron of PGMB, expressed his appreciation to all those involved in making Pesta Bederun 2024 a success.

He emphasised that the cooperation of all parties is crucial in ensuring the success of any programme.

Meanwhile, PGMB president Hafizzul Abdul Halim stated that the association aims to mobilise the community to enhance and improve the education, entrepreneurship, physical and spiritual development, culture, social, and economic aspects of the Melanau community in Balingian.

“As an association focused on the Melanau generation, PGMB is dedicated to preserving and promoting Melanau heritage, language, traditions, and customs among the younger generation.

“This is to ensure they do not forget their cultural roots, which is why several editions of Pesta Bederun Balingian were organised last year,” he explained.

Additionally, Hafizzul expressed his gratitude to the committee members and all parties involved in organising Pesta Bederun Balingian 2024.

Also present were Mukah Division Resident Datuk Kueh Lei Poh and Mukah District Officer Peleadzman Ahip.
