KUCHING: The Sarawak Orphans’ Welfare Board (Peryatim) is holding a supervisor workshop to enhance the quality of care provided to orphans.
It is focused on improving the understanding and skills of supervisors who work closely with the children, said its Chief Executive Officer Mohamad Salleh Hamidin.
“The primary goal is to cultivate a culture of excellence among staff, furthering Peryatim’s vision to provide comprehensive care for orphaned children across Sarawak and to develop high-quality human resources.
“Key takeaways from the workshop include the board’s operation of four caring branches across the region, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for orphaned children.”
Salleh said orphans in the care of the board receive educational support, including tuition to help them excel in their studies. Religious education is also provided, with a focus on instilling Islamic values and practices.
“Recognising the diverse backgrounds of the children, the board also offers emotional management programmes to help supervisors cope with the challenges they may face.”
He said there were about 300 orphans in Sarawak across all four branches.
This is due to the fact that after Covid-19, they ceased accepting new admissions, and some had also completed their Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM) and left.
The 2024 Peryatim Sarawak Supervisor Workshop from Feb 25-28 and is taking place at the Peryatim Sibu Branch, namely the Juma’ani Tuanku Haji Bujang Welfare Complex.
The workshop has brought together a total of 40 staff members from the four Peryatim branches throughout Sarawak, namely from the Laila Taib Welfare Complex in Kuching, the Hamidah Yakup Welfare Complex in Miri, the Juma’ani Tuanku Haji Bujang Welfare Complex in Sibu, and the Abdul Rahman Daud Welfare Complex in Bintulu.
