SARATOK: Kalaka assemblyman, Mohamad Duri, has called on his constituents to refrain from airing issues on social media when there are other avenues available to them.

He feared that blowing issues out of proportion on social media could lead to negative public perception.

“I’m a very open person. If there’s an issue, come directly to the service centre office or write a letter,” he said.

“That is the proper channel – don’t go airing it all over social media. And any good ideas are more than welcome for discussion.

“So whatever best course of action there is for our shared progress, we can take the necessary steps,” he said during the Berayo Samo with ADUN Kalaka 2025 programme at SJKC Min Syn Hall near here on Saturday.

He stressed the importance of continually nurturing a strong relationship between elected representatives and the people.

“One initiative I find very relevant is through programmes like Berayo Samo with ADUN Kalaka, such as today’s event.

“I invite everyone to come, regardless of background, so that we can get to know one another better, meet face-to-face, and enjoy some fellowship together.

“I organise this every year to ensure the people stay close to their elected representatives, to the officers at the service centre, to party members, which in turn fosters the spirit of unity and togetherness among us in Saratok, especially,” he added.

For that reason, he said, the ngabang or open house culture in Sarawak is truly unique.

“It is a strong platform for building connections, and it carries its own charm.

“At the same time, it allows us to seek and extend forgiveness.

“Truly, this reflects the beauty of Malaysian culture – a tradition that should continue to flourish, strengthening neighbourly ties,” he said.

The gathering, which ran from 10.00 am to 2.00 pm, was attended by more than 1,000 members of the local community.
