KUCHING: Indulge in scrumptious choice of delicacies during the whole month of Ramadan at ‘Karya’.

The restaurant’s chief of operations, who wishes to identify herself as Chin, 31, caters the operations side of the restaurant that opened this year.

She said that the menu served throughout the month of Ramadan is ‘ikan bakar pantai timur’ (east coast barbequed fish) with servings on banana leaves, including three types of vegetables, two types of side dishes along with two types of pickle and three types of curry sauce.

“As for ala carte, customers may choose accordingly from a variety of choices such as fish curry, chicken curry, beef rendang, mutton curry among others,” she told New Sarawak Tribune on Thursday.

Chin highlighted that Karya’s theme for the month of Ramadan is ‘Buka Bersama-sama’, which translates to breaking fast together.

”Customers can always message us through Instagram and Facebook for bookings and reservations and for further enquiries.

“This is only during the fasting period, from 6 pm onwards until 10 pm, and the whole restaurant can roughly fit more than 50 people,” she said.

However, Chin added that big groups such as corporate companies that wish to make reservations for Ramadan can also book the entire restaurant.

She added that normal ala carte menus for the evening would only be reverted back after the Ramadan period.

“During the Ramadan period, customers can only order from the Ramadan menu but customers who wish to eat the normal menus must come before 6 pm.

“Karya opens its shop at 8 am until 9 pm, however for Ramadan, we extend and open until 10 pm,” she said. Upon entering the restaurant is a signage ‘Truly Anak Malaysia’ with ‘KARYA’ written in capital letters as Chin shared that she and several partners alongside her sought for a one Malaysia concept.

“Our food mostly has local recipes, we want everyone to be at one place and they can eat, prices are affordable, and our kolo mee or laksa is priced from RM7.

“At the moment, we are applying for a halal certificate, but currently the restaurant serves pork free dishes,” she disclosed.

Chin also noted that since its opening, the restaurant aims to gather a multiracial crowd as it offers Indian, Bidayuh, Chinese, Malay and other local cuisines.

According to her, Karya’s signature meal is the nasi lemak berempah, which she says is different and unique compared to other versions.

Karya’s atmosphere exudes a homey environment, translating the objective to dive into the taste of Malaysian cuisine and is located in Saradise, here opposite Common Ground restaurant.
